Under the hood

An eight-week sprint to go back under the hood of the platforms I work on, from Linux and containers to infrastructure as code, documented in public.

Why I started it

I use managed cloud services every day. I wanted to make sure I truly understand the layers underneath them. So before learning new tools, I chose to consolidate what I already know, and to check every topic with exercises, tutorials or small proofs of concept.

The plan

  1. 1Linux and containers
  2. 2Kubernetes
  3. 3Networks and security
  4. 4Infrastructure as code
  5. 5AI and LLMs
  6. 6Observability

How I work

  • Study one layer at a time, from the operating system up to the tools that automate it.
  • Practise in a lab for each topic, with exercises or a small proof of concept.
  • Document what I learn in a public GitLab repository, so the progress is visible and reusable.

Outcome

In progress. The first week, Linux and containers, has started, and each step is documented in the public repository as I go.
